Khlong Saen Saep Boat is a public Bangkok canal boat service that is operating along the Saen Saep canal. The route is served by 100 boats with 40-50 seats each, running from the central part of the city to the east through Bangkok and back. The route is over 18 kilometers long and connects many shopping spots and attractions such as Central World, Pratunam, Nana, MBK, and the Golden Mount.

Khlong Saen Saep Boat is a regular, basic water transportation service for locals in Bangkok and is used by more than 60,000 passengers per day. The number of seats on the boats is limited, so you not always get a seat and need to stand along the way. However, the boat ride on the canal is pretty fast, and you don't need to stand too long.
Khlong Saen Saep Boat service is very effective in a city like Bangkok. When taking a canal boat, you don’t need to worry about traffic jams, and it is also very cheap and fast. If you don't want to waste your time waiting for buses and find taxis too expensive, give the canal boat a try.
Khlong Saen Saep Boat Lines
There are two lines of canal boat service on Saen Saep canal in Bangkok.

Note that the ticket price is adjusted depending on the fuel prices. As lately the situation is very unstable, ticket prices change often. If the diesel fuel price drops, the ticket prices should be reduced accordingly.
Make sure to get a ticket to your final destination when you start your journey, even if you need to transfer between the Golden Mount Line and NIDA Line at Pratunam Pier. The conductor may ask you to show the ticket on the next boat, and you won’t need to pay again.

Public Canal Boat Experience in Bangkok
You can explore different parts of Bangkok with this canal boat service, but there are drawbacks that you need to consider before using it.
Khlong Saen Saep boats are known for their dangerous boarding. Boarding the Bangkok canal boat can be fun but a bit daunting and hair-raising for first-timers, as you have to be quick jumping on and off from the side of the boat, as it will not wait for you. Because of that, taking this kind of boat is not be suitable for families with small children or people with mobility issues.
Another thing you need to worry about is the number of people on the boats, as the boats get packed during the rush hours. You have to squeeze in and stand with other passengers on the boat. It's better to avoid the time when people go to work or back home, in early mornings till 9:00 and in the evenings after 17:00.
There's no beautiful scenery along the way, as you will mainly see slum houses on the banks of the canal. Expect the water to be dirty and even smelly in some places. To avoid splashes of dirty water, there are plastic curtains on the boat sides that are normally raised by passengers.

If you don’t mind all downsides, the Khlong Saen Saep Boat service can be one of the best ways to travel around Bangkok and to discover the city from a different angle. Ticket prices are very low and you gain local experience that is worth many times the fare.
In case you want to explore the canals of Bangkok but the experience of squeezing into the boat with crowds of locals doesn't seem tempting, hop on a typical Thai long-tail boat to explore the Bangkok Yai Canal in Thonburi on the Bangkok Canal tour. During this 2-hour canal adventure, you will explore life on and around the khlongs (canals) and get a glimpse of how the local people live.
